Who is your Jon Voight??

My husband's friend Garrett has a loathing for Jon Voight that rivals the best of them. He is fond of saying "You could be watching a perfectly good movie, then all of a sudden BOOM, Jon Voight. And the movie is ruined." He cannot stand to see him in a movie and the mere presence of him ruins the entire experience.

Ever since Garrett's revelation about Jon Voight, it has become common practice to have your own "Jon Voight". Mine happens to be Christopher Walken. Although the deep-seeded hatred is not the same, it bothers me to see him in a movie. He is the same character in every movie he does. He never changes, doesn't have any demention or depth. I will watch a movie of his, I may even like the movie as a whole, but to see Christopher Walken, makes my skin crawl.

So if you have a "Jon Voight" sound off! Let it out, it will make you feel much better!

1) Jon Voight is pretty dumb. But I LOVE Christopher Walken! He is so FUNNY. It's unfortunate that you can't stand him, but I can see where you're coming from.

I will have to think about my character-actor-arch-nemesis for a while. Nothing comes to mind currently.

2) Dude, Christopher Walken is SO awesome. You're right about the lack of depth, but when you're Christopher Walken, you don't need depth. He's just naturally awesome as-is. Need more proof? Two words: cowbell.

Hmmm... I would say that my Jon Voight would be Steven Seagal. I HATE it when he just pops into movies. Star Wars? Steven Seagal. Big Mama's House? Steven Seagal. Little Mermaid? Steven Seagal.

3) Jim Belushi. I can't stand how he's become the spokesman for Chicago sports. Anytime a Chicago, or Illinois-related team makes an appearance on national television or a post-season game, there he is. John Cusak is running a close second.

4) Mine is Dennis Franz. He played a bad guy years ago on Hillstreet Blues (yes, dating myself, but I am older than Denny and younger than his mom!) and he was so offensive to me that I can't watch any TV show or movie he is in. Never watched NYPD Blue because of him. Everyone kept telling me he was such a good guy in that show--I will never know. He makes me angry just to see him and hear his voice. Speaking of voices, Fran Drescher's voice does the same to me as Dennis Franz's face--just irritates me beyond reason!!

5) Fran Drescher gets Joe every time. If I am flipping through the channels and skip over her, Joe just shudders.

7) Y'know I couldn't come up with one when I first read this. But I too cringed reading that name. There you go.

8) My wife can't stand Helen Hunt. I'm surprised I forgot about her. She was so mean to Paul Reiser on "Mad About You."

9) I have a few "Jon Voights" - Jim Carrey is one, though I'm OK with The Truman Show. Also, Ben Stiller--will every movie he does be parodied after There's Something About Mary? And Adam Sandler even though he was pretty good in The Wedding Singer and as Smitty on The Cosby Show.

Oh yeah, Steven Seagal isn't good in anything and if you don't like Walken, have you EVER seen this:

Freaking hilarious!!

I will give you "cowbell" but I can sum it up with two words: "Goodnight Moon".

11) Hmmm...I don't think that was Walken - my husband heard that it was Jay Mohr's voice-over. I couldn't tell you; not a Simpson's fan, myself. Though, if I were a kid, he'd frighten me a bit, too. Seriously.

12) I agree about Adam Sandler--he's another "Jon Voight". The sad part about it all is I used to like Jon Voight. One of my favorite movies is "Conrack" and I thought he was good in that but maybe I was biased because I loved the book so much.

16) ooooh, Tara Reid, good one. I think most would agree with that statement. You never really hear anyone say "That Tara Reid is a great actress!"

21) ahh.. I would whole heartedly agree.. but he was really good as the "blind" guy in 'Employee of the month'.. he was probably the best character in that movie.... actually, now i think about it, that movie wasnt all that good, 'cept Andy dick.

22) I honestly really can't think of anyone. There are movies I avoid because I hated the movie. The Ace Ventura series and The Mask. I can't stand those movies.
