Weird to say the least

I was typing in the address of my favorite website when I accidently left out the most important letter, Z! Normally I would expect some blah generic website to pop up and to my horror it was something else all together! It was a website called Humoo. A bovine milk substitute for the vegans in the world made from human breast milk. Yes ladies and gentleman, I said human.

I, for one, am not a vegan, I love my steak and that is that. But I have great respect for those that are. More power to you. But the thought of anyone else, except my own baby, drinking my breast milk, just weirds me out. I would not be able to consume something I knew came out of a stranger's breast. Humans were not meant to mass produce milk for commercial consumption. It would be like feeding me dog or cat. Dogs and cats are not bred (in this country) for their meat. I realize some places do and that is fine, some people would drink human milk, but not me. Just thought I would share an interesting moment in my otherwise dull monday morning.

If you dare to check out the site:

1) I was watching the discovery channel (or one similar) about 5 years ago and they were interviewing some Europeans that grill up and eat the placenta after the baby is born. There was some meaning, purpose, etc. behind it, but...ew...maybe Americans close-minded...maybe not.

2) Funny, reminds me of the time we had a friend over and he offered to test Dylan's bottle to make sure it was not too hot while Denny and I were working on the meal. His son was 3 weeks older than Dylan. He put some of the milk on his wrist, decided it was not too hot, and then in front of everyone licked the milk off of his wrist instead of wiping it off. Denny looked at him and said, "You do realize that was breastmilk." He looked back and shrugged and said, "Not too bad." His son had mostly formula so he did not even think about it when he did it. I do agree that it is a pretty gross way for Vegans to get their dairy. I mean it still comes from a mammal right?

5) I saw a news story about a woman who wanted to sell her breast milk on E-Bay and they wouldn't let her...regulations, etc. I wonder what the price would be? It is too creepy to contemplate.

6) Leslie, more people than you think do that. Most try to do it on Craigslist, because you are not allowed to sell bodily fluids on ebay. I know that there are programs through the hospital that are legal, but they do certain things to test and process the milk. I think that you would not really know if you were buying something like that off the internet if the person smoked, did drugs, or drank. Scary!

7) Are their women who, for some reason cannot produce milk, that buy other people's breast milk for their child? I mean, I think I may prefer that (after seeing the donor's history), if I couldn't produce milk for my child.

Or does it not work that way?

8) I've been to humoo about five times by accident. I think their numbers have gone WAY up since the creation of humzoo.

9) Hayley, yes there are women that do that, but there is nothing wrong with formula, and I would think that would be a safer bet. If you are buying it on the internet, you have no real way of telling if the donor is being honest.

10) Ben, I think you may be right! They should thank Dave and Denny for provided more visitors to their site.

11) As far as breast milk vs. formula, I don't really have a strong opinion either way, but if it came down to someone elses breast milk or formula, I would choose formula all the way. But for the simple fact of human consumption I could not and would not be able to drink human breast milk. That is just too much.
