Get your brass out of my house!
A day of liberation. There is nothing wrong with brass but after spending so many years in rental houses, I equate brass with "cheap" and "dated". I'm gradually removing all brass light fixtures and elements from the house.Today, Sean, my wonderful electrician, is replacing the ugly light boxes as noted.
He is also changing out all the globe lights in the various closets, hallways and rooms that are mismatched styles and shapes with the same globe light. A small thing--these mismatched items--but another "rental" look I want gone. My cousin, when visiting, said "it is chic now to have mismatched dishes and flatware and glasses" but to me it's my life of hand-me-downs, bargain prices and pack-rat mentality to keep something for years because "it's still good". The globe lights all matching make me feel less like a renter or squatter and more like "home-owner".
Sean is also getting rid of the brass light fixture in the master bathroom and the "renter quality" chrome with bare bulbs (another metal that isn't my favorite) light fixture in the main bathroom and replacing it with a bronze one with some lamp lights to warm the room up (atmosphere-wise, not temperature-wise!).
None of these changes are necessary but they feel better. Hopefully they will look better and less dated and "cheap". We'll see when he is done. I thought I had a picture of the chrome bar with bare bulbs but I guess I missed that one on inspection day. You'll just have to take my word for it. :)
Debbie's here prettying up the yard and Sean is prettying up the house. Gonna feel like a new place by the end of the day. And when my friends come visiting tomorrow, should look different too!
It's so bad that one year for an anniversary present Matt bought me a new light for our living room. It was the best present. :)
So congratulations on ridding yourself of brass. I understand the importance of this accomplishment.
