This is a tree in my yard. I was talking to someone at work about "Oregon Grapes". I assumed she meant "grapes" in "Oregon" but apparently it is a shrub/herb in the Portland area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon-grape She was curious if it is edible (which it is). I mentioned this tree and she didn't know what it might be so I took a photo. It reminds me of pokeberries back in the South. Anyone recognize it?

The berries do look like pokeberries, don't they?
Definitely not Oregon Grapes, they have really lethal stickers on the tips of their leaves. Maybe hackberry? Are there thorns on the stems anywhere? If so, I would guess a hawthorne tree.

I'll check about the thorns but I don't believe there are any. Just the odd berry. There is one in the back with nasty thorns. Messy too. Has little tiny white flowers that die and drop as well as a lot of tiny leaves. I've learned to wear leather gloves when pruning that one. Thanks for the info!!
