Anyone guess German Chocolate Cake? In case you've ever been curious--the recipe has nothing to do with Germany or German recipes but was published in a TX newspaper in 1957 using a chocolate called "German's Chocolate". It was originally called "German's Chocolate Cake" but was gradually shortened to German Chocolate Cake as we know it today.9 Comments

1) it is beautiful!
2) Is there anything better in this universe????!!!!!
3) Hi Sludge!
4) My mouth is watering just looking at it-look ou you pregger girls out there is this doesn't start a craving nothing will!
5) Yummmmmmm!
6) omg-YUM!
7) There are quite a few coconut-haters at my office but German Chocolate Cake seems to override most coconut fussiness. Coconut, chocolate, and caramelized sugar--what could be better? Well, I will admit the chocolate cake with broiled coconut icing that my mom used to make for us beats even GC cake for me. I like the filling/frosting toasted so it is crunchy as well as yummy.
8) This looks really good, and I might have to get the recipe from you. Do you have any ideas for a special Mother's Day item I could bake this weekend for my mom?
9) I have 10,000+ ideas. :) Give me some idea of the flavors and what you want to make and I'll make sure you get a recipe. I didn't hear back on this one but that's nothing usual with my folks. They tend to take me for granted (no, not a pun...at least not intended!). :) I'll finally hear about it next week, like "did I tell you how much we enjoyed the cake last week?". LOL I've learned not to let it bother me like it used to. I was always "geez, must not have been good!" when people wouldn't tell me they liked it (or not) :)
