At times I wonder if I'm a bit obsessed about buying too many baking pans, utensils, gadgets and cooling racks--until I have a day like yesterday and bake 3 varieties of cookies AND a pan of brownies. Then, I'm reassured ... and consider adding a few to the inventory! Five co-workers are visiting Portland from various parts of the country. I promised them each a treat (luckily 2 like the same thing!) and planned on baking or prep work over the weekend but my landlord changed my plans with an unexpected maintenance inspection (usually inspected in the fall). So, my plans were changed. Luckily I had to work from home to be there for the inspection and gained an hour of my day back to give me more time to bake. Started around 2 and finished around 8:30 last night. :) I guess my "work" at home was both corporate AND kitchen detail!

Brownies are a Peanut Butter-Cream Cheese Brownie (another frequently requested recipe!)

4) You need to start getting PAID for all the baking you do!

5) I do get paid, Betsy, in happy people. These folks are THE BEST and work really hard and aren't nearly as appreciated as they should be. They make my job much easier and a little baking and some ingredients are ok with me to show them how much I appreciate them and their efforts. :)

I don't know that the neighbors get much aroma. If it is nice enough for the windows to be open it is usually too warm for me to have them open. LOL Maybe I need to kick open the kitchen window on weekends and push the smells out with a fan and see if I can get them to pay for the ingredients instead. LOL

7) Dang--I could ship you a whole pan for $10 a brownie. Let's see, I can get roughly 24 brownies (and that's a good sized brownie--I usually squeeze 36 or 48 out to make them more bite-sized) in pan so that's $240 a pan. Heck, I'd throw in the shipping for free...when do you want the pan?? :)

8) ummm, that's a bit expensive for my blood. How about you send me one for $10 and I'll pick up my own coffee. Actually, I just realized they are 4 days old now, so I'm only willing to pay $2.

9) I make them fresh daily. Even shipping one would still be worth a good deal--though I'd have to charge shipping on just one. :)

10) Your pictures are making me hungry. I know not to go to the grocery store hungry but now I can't even go on Humzoo when I am hungry. Where do you get all of your recipes? All of the cookies look YUMMY!!!

11) Virtually (no pun intended) all my recipes come from the web. I have 4 newspaper sites I visit weekly for their food section; a fabulous blog called Baking Bites (www.bakingbites.com), King Arthur Flour's website (my favorite shopping site online ...www.kingarthurflour.com), LOTS of newsletters from places like Pillsbury, Hershey's. Keeping them all electronic, I can use WORD to save them, sort them by categories and sub-categories if needed and search easily by a keyword (i.e. lemon) to narrow down my selection for what I want (or need to use an ingredient for).

Last time I made a count, I'm over 10,000 recipes. One guy at work figured that I could bake a treat a day and never repeat one for 26+ years with the number I had at that time. :) Some people collect stamps; I collect web recipes.

Like anything you do with enough practice, I can pretty much look at one and tell it will work. The banana cake I made this week got a lukewarm reaction in Humzoo (that's ok--just commenting) and most people I mentioned it to were about the same "oh...sounds interesting". The comments I heard after the cake was tasted were more satisfying. Merrick told me she had two pieces in the morning for breakfast, others commented on the cake and loved the complexity and flavor combination. And I noticed the next morning it was all gone. Not bad for a recipe with "lukewarm" appeal by name and listing of ingredients. Merrick admitted that the combo didn't sound that "wow" to her but she tasted before she learned and loved the challenge of the tasting and experiencing. So, I may not always hear a wow with the recipe name or list of ingredients from folks but so far (knock on wood) I haven't disappointed them.

And yet saying that, I also admit to being humbled by a favorite being a peanut-butter cookie from a mix with a Reese's PB cup stuck in the middle. A lot of my WOW treats are simple, mix-based or candy-added types of treats. I'm ok with that. Nothing wrong with simple, easy and "wow". :) I'm glad you enjoy the treat pictures--sorry if they make you hungry. LOL
