When I moved here in 2002, I took my dog, Lucky, to Astoria and then drove down the coast. I'd never seen the Pacific Ocean so I was very excited about the closeness but I couldn't seem to find a way to it that wasn't private. When I hit Cannon Beach, I spied my first seascape rocks and decided I'd barge through someone's yard to see them if I couldn't find a public access. I did at the famous Haystack Rock. Hopefully seeing the people gives you some idea of the size. It was a perfect fall day with mild temps and lots of sun. We had lots of company but the beach area is huge. Oh, and Oregonians rarely say "go to the beach". Here it is "the coast".
