I could just manage the whole thing at this distance. I don't think anyone tries to climb it. I think, if I remember, it is even posted to protect the wildlife. There are all kinds of interesting tidal pools with the tide out like it is now.

I love tidal pools! You never know what you're going to find in one.

I didn't get much of a chance to do any looking with wild-eyed Lucky along. He was both a blessing and a curse. I'm hoping to take the camera this year for some photos at the coast. Hopefully it hasn't changed in 4 years and the rock is still there. :)

Might eat more of those clam fritters too!

My husband and I went to Cannon Beach in the summer of 2003. We stayed at a ridiculously expensive hotel right on the beach there, but we splurged because it was our last vacation before we had kids! I have some very similar photos of Haystack rock. I think we climbed a little on the lower "peaks", but definitely wouldn't have tried the big rock. If there had been a sign telling me to stay off, I definitely would have. We also went to Ecola, and then stayed with a friend of mine in Portland for a few days. It was a great trip.

It's a beautiful area and yes Cannon Beach is a pricey place. At least it is free to go visit the Rock and walk the beach. I've never stayed except for once overnight. I'd like to splurge on a trip and spend a weekend or even a week (if I can afford it!) to see the coast longer and more moods. If I didn't have to live close to the city to work--I'd move there in a moment (again...if I could afford it!). :)

This was the first place I saw the ocean. I was 19. Cannon Beach is so beautiful...I hope to go back and visit again sometime.

It's a good place to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time! I'm happy that it is so close for me but I don't go as much as I'd like. Hope you get back sometime!
