I've never seen any of the birds but was able on my first trip to get right down to the rock and touch it. Today it was quickly being overwhelmed by the tide coming in. Unlike the warm and tame beaches in the East, the coast in Oregon is a wild place. You hear "never turn your back to the ocean" frequently. It isn't uncommon for entire trees to be "spit" out of the ocean and hit unsuspected visitors. Another thing you will hear about is "sneaker waves". My cousin and I went out to allow her to put a toe in the Pacific. It was quite a walk and she admitted the water to be quite chilly. Swimming isn't common due to the temperature of the water except with wet suits. In the short time we walked down and back--the tide was quickly moving in behind us.
