To weed or not to weed?
For the past 3 years, we have had a wonderful vine grow on our porch railing but... it is a weed.

One year it actually grew in a circular shape and was kind of pretty. My neighbors even commented on how nice it looked. BUT, again, it IS a weed. We have sprayed weed killer but it continues to come back. If I was really creative, I would plant something in its place to truly have a vine that deserves the railing. Ugh, so today, Ric removed it and sprayed once again.

Now, a quick question to any true gardeners, is this a weed? I planted some seedlings one time that someone gave me, NOT knowing what I was even planting.

Weed or plant?

The vine looks nicer than a morning glory, from your picture, with interesting veining in the leaves? Why kill it if it looks nice and isn't taking over your yard?
The second picture looks like the plant could be hesperis matronalis/Dame's Rocket. (the seed pods are NOT connected to the bulb-like foliage on the far right, correct?) Did it bloom with fragrant blue/purple flowers? It can naturalize by reseeding, and is considered a wildflower. It can fill in a spot nicely in a few years, but is not considered invasive - not in NC, anyway. I think stheinz had a picture of it in his yard somewhere. Check it out and see if it looks familiar.
It's pretty difficult to tell for sure from what is left of the plant.
