Plumber come and gone, now I need a tile person $^&**((&%$#$

Plumber came, Easterday Plumbing, thanks for the suggestions. No real leak though, he says we now need all the tiling in the shower to be replaced. He says the grout wears out after so many years. I am chalking this up once again to being a house built by high school students! Seriously, there is not one material used in my house I would have ever suggested in a quality home. Unless it has something to do with the 70's and everything was just cheaply made then. HO HUM! I need to win the lottery! I have so many things on my list I want done to this house in order for us to stay here another 20 years.

all new flooring
new fireplace
all new base boards
3 bathroom makeovers
new kitchen cabinets (they really are falling apart)
change the closet location from a bedroom with THREE closets to just 2 and give me one of them, thank you very much
all new doors ... from luann to six panel (one down, 15 more to go)
new back door and repair of the flooring, I feel some dip there going on....

and this doesn't even touch my landscaping plan I have for the back yard.. ugh..

I feel your pain with home repairs and have a list very similar to yours - we are just taking it one step at a time.

Make a priority list, then work on it when you have extra time and money, that's what we do. I mean, I've wanted a huge shelf in our garage above the extra fridge and deep freeze for six years, and you know what? I got it a couple weeks ago--it's 8' x 3' and it's wonderful! Next on the list was our built-in desk downstairs, but our three-year-old son decided to rip a towel rack off the wall of our primary bathroom along with the drywall, so that task has risen to the top of the list. *sigh*

Good luck with everything and don't forget to document things here, so we can either A) learn something or B) live our lives vicariously through you!! :O)

PS. I did a bit of tile when we had our second bathroom put in and it isn't very difficult. I did a neat mosaic, too, and it was kinda' fun! You can see it here: http://family.howardsend.com --scroll down for our remodel photos.

Similarly, we have a bunch of things we want to do. We are getting some new carpet and linoleum which is costing a little under 3 grand.

Very nice job Angi, there is hope for me yet. I should say, I have had several challenges in this house and tackled many on my own and pushed Ric to help and I mean push! I have changed the thermostat in my dryer on my own, while he made me soup for lunch, I put up the garage door opener with his help and it is still hanging, I have removed wallpaper, painted and plenty of other small tasks. So, I guess I just have to bite the bullet and see IF this is another one to add to my "I can do it" lists.

Tiling is easy once you get started - my ex owned his own tile business so I learned alot from him. We are working our way through the house - next stop - Sarah and Reenie's room - have to decide on a paint color first tho

Shower pans are tough. There are a lot of components involved that absolutely have to be done correctly, and it's not easy for a first timer. I've been in construction for 10 years and it is something that I always let tile professionals do. I'm sure you can do it, you'll just need to think more like a roofer than a tiler to get the pan leak-proof.
Tile work is a piece of cake compared to many things, although it is tedious and labor intensive. Test your pan before you put any tile down, so that you'll know if you have any leaks.

It's a great resource for info on quality work.
Good luck!

We're in the same boat!! We have so many projects we'd like to do on our house, but we don't have the time/money needed.
