ho, ho, ho, it's magic, you know

For the past 2 months .. or so... our garage door has been acting up. At first we couldn't get it to close, so we would unlatch it and attempt to make adjustments and still no luck on the fix. Then it was also opening and closing all on it's own. We finally called a professional, he was able to repair the not closing issue and we were really hoping for the magic door to stop opening and closing on it's own. But, nope, it was still going up and down without our control. It was the freakiest thing ever and we had NO idea. Locking down the house daily was our routine since I had no clue if I was going to come home during lunch to find an open garage door. One time on my lunch hour at home, I didn't have the car pulled in quite all the way ... and son of a Beeeee, the door went down ON MY CAR bumper and got STUCK. I had to re open it but it was only trying to go down and not up, it was so stuck, it was crazy. Not happy about those scratches at all.

So, yesterday, as Ric and I were in the yard/driveway, our neighbor from across the street drove into her driveway and proceeded to open her garage door. Guess what??? OUR door closed!!! Could NOT believe it, but her opener was on the same frequency as ours, it was the weirdest thing. We ran over to her right away and confirmed it by pressing her opener and watched in amazement ... her door closing as ours would open and then reverse. Our neighbor had really wondered why we were leaving our garage door open all night long once in a while and why it was open during some of those bad storms.

So, mystery solved, it wasn't magic it was our neighbor. Today I have made all attempts to reset our opener and remotes. I am crossing my fingers it worked.

1) That is very funny. I once hit the key to unlock the doors of my car in a parking lot and the car next to mine started alarming. I guess it happens. Good luck.

2) There was actually a theft ring that would drive up and down the streets using garage door openers to see what they could open randomly. Glad you got it sovled.

3) That totally sucks; I hope you got it fixed. At our last house, we had a remote (not wired through the house) doorbell. It would ring all the time even though no one was at the door. Finally, we realized ours would ring whenever someone pushed the doorbell across the street. That happened all the time since she ran a daycare.

4) Garage door remote tested and all is good with the neighborhood. They got a kick out of it, at our expense of course. What a relief. I didn't know they made remote doorbells? Hm.. might have to make sure ours is wired, thanks for the heads up on that one. Whew, no daycare across the street thank goodness.

7) We had a garage door once that did the same thing, but it wasn't the neighbors. It was from a couple airplanes that flew over our house to prepare for landing at a strip a few miles behind us. Weird.

8) Great story! I can't wait to hear the story from the neighbor. The girls drive their bikes down to visit her. She always gives them candy. See, you can't ever trust the kind neighbors. Seriously, with the bike thefts in the neighborhood, I am glad you got this solved.

9) ME TOO! Not that I have any desirable bikes they would want ...
