Good to be home...

So I haven't commented at ALL about the Minneapolis trip...

About halfway, KTKat and I came to the conclusion that I had to try 10 new things, and then we could go home...

On Wednesday morning, we were late by 2 SECONDS and missed checking in our bags, missed our flight, and missed being able to go thru security like "normal" people. Since we had to change our flight, we were red flagged per say. Which meant that (besides having to wait 5 hours until the next available flight) we would have to go thru the ringers at security. I've never been frisked and searched before, and I never want to again. And instead of having a comfortable 2 hours in layover at O'Hare, we barely had enough time to get from gate to gate when we arrived.

Needless to say, when we arrived in Minneapolis, we were late, tired, and very much so "sub par". I had motion sickness like crazy and really didn't feel like doing much of anything. I was pretty boring for the whole trip.

We got a chance to be tourists on Thursday night after we went to the teppanyaki grill - Ichiban - and found all kinds of cool stuff that we agreed we needed to see in the daylight. Took some fun pictures over a bridge and got in relatively late because of it.

Friday we went to meetings, continued our trek as tourists and then went to our banquet/award ceremony/dance. It was pretty neat, and what food I could eat was good, but I was still exhausted from the late night before and all of the walking during the day. So, needless to say, I bowed out and went to bed before the dancing and drinking started. like I said earlier - I was a real stick in the mud during this trip...

And sure enough on the way home, we ended up spending a few MORE hours at O'Hare waiting for the weather to clear up so they could quit delaying our flight. Luckily enough tho, we didn't need to be frisked or searched - we were just normal passengers...thank god.

I have to say that I'm definitely done with flying for a while - I get motion sickness SO badly anymore - and the medicine you can take for it doesn't to anything but dope me up.

Overall, the trip was fun and I did enjoy it. I'm glad that I reached the "10 new things" goal so we could go home! lol

The 10 things were:

Missing a flight
Being frisked
Having my personal belongings searched
Eating zucchini
Eating scallops
Eating at a teppanyaki bar
Taking a carriage ride
Walking on a bridge over an interstate
Eating Hearts of palm
Having a flight delayed (three times)

I know - I've lived in a box, under a rock, in the middle of a cornfield for WAY too much of my adult life - but I'm getting better...I'm sure there's more than just those ten, but hey - it's a start!

1) i don't recomend walking over a bridge on the interstate, a gust of wind could practically send you overboard!

2) OMG - it would shake SO bad whenever a big truck would go underneath. I don't do heights OR bridges, so this was a BIG leap of faith for me!

3) Lyndsey, I've spent my entire life with car and plane motion-sickness. I've gotten a little better riding in a car if I don't look around a lot or get too warm. Planes, I had to go hungry AND thirsty for the entire time flying to avoid sickness. A wonderful friend of mine in MN told me to look for Dimenhydrinate (50 mg). She used to go scuba-diving and had problems with seasickness as well as the plane ride to get to the location. She said this did the trick. I took her advice when I flew out to Portland to look for housing. For the first time in years, I was able to fly without any nausea. I even ate on the plane and had water to drink (I don't drink much else). Eating and enjoying the flight was a NOVELTY. And it is easy to take. Usually one pill for 24 hours so I could take it hours before the flight and not worry if I was flying most of the day--I wouldn't need to starve and dehydrate to avoid nausea. I've seen several store and generic versions and they work equally well as the more expensive names like Dramamine. Make sure of the ingredient--that's the one that works. Take it from someone who can finally look forward to riding in a plane. It's the rest of flying that I'm not crazy about. The long hours, cramped seating, airports, rental cars, annoying seat-mates. :)

Hope that helps on your next flight. Nothing fun about getting to your destination and being sick and you can't enjoy it! Only 2 tablets away from avoiding it next trip! :)
