Buried in term papers

I've spent nearly every weekend for the past month grading term papers. I had two classes of 25 students each turn their essays in within one week of each other...mistake. The pile of grading was so large and overwhelming that it was difficult to make myself grade them.

These are the ones I've graded...

Both are sophomore classes, and both had to choose a social issue and write a persuasive essay on it. The standard class had to write 5-7 pages and the honors class had to write 7-9 pages. Most of the essays in my standard class were interesting to read, but I spent so much time marking grammar errors that I really didn't enjoy them. My honors essays are much different. I can actually focus on their rhetoric because I don't have to wade through a mess of grammar or organizational errors. They're more natural writers, so their essays are much easier and more enjoyable.

These are the ones I have left...

You can see the pile of term papers on my clipboard. I got it a couple weekends ago, and it makes grading on the couch so much easier. Plus, it's pretty, so I want to finish the essay so that I can look at it.

p.s. Notice the laptop open in the background. You can't tell, but it's open to Humzoo.

1) Looks like you still have a lot of reading. Hope they are more enjoyable this time around.

2) I can't imagine reading all those papers. It's a shame that you have to do work on the weekend. Teachering is such a hard profession. You deserve a lot of praise and much more money!

3) Mrs. Shoo, as a retired English teacher, I can very well empathize. My heart and my soul go out to you. I loved teaching English except for grading essays and term papers!!!#%^^%&*& I found every excuse in the world to put off grading them! You'll get them done, we always do, and you'll have my sympathy in the meantime!!! Summer's just a few weeks away!!

4) I'm right there with you. I teach 4th grade and I'm VERY thankful that they aren't able to write 7 page papers! I just have stuff to grade in every subject. I'm procrastinating at this very moment. Only 9 days of school left, so I really can't wait much longer. Where did you get that clipboard? I want one!
