Sunday, June 15th, 2008my Cardinals dress...that I made!! Mr. Shoo and I went to a Cardinals game yesterday with our friend Ed. I'm not a huge fan of shorts, but I knew I'd be hot if I wore jeans. I decided to solve the problem with my sewing machine my lovely husband got me for Christmas.
I had a pattern for a loose-fitting sun dress that was perfect for a hot game-day outfit. I also had some red fabric and an old striped men's button-down shirt. Here you can see how I used the two of them, plus a logo from a Cardinals tee that didn't fit anymore.
Keep in mind this was taken after the game...I'd been sitting in the sun for 2 1/2 hours or so, and I sweated a river.
I had some problems with the hem line. I had the dress finished and asked Mr. Shoo if I should go with a longer hemline or a shorter one...he said shorter. I even showed him what it would look like. (Now, in his defense, he did tell me to look in the mirror, but I decided to trust my husband.)
After I cut and hemmed the dress, I put it on...it was entirely too short in the back. If I was still sixteen, I wouldn't have minded the short hemline, but I'm definitely not sixteen anymore...so, I told Mr. Shoo he ruined my dress and cried for a bit.
Then I decided to add some stripey fabric to the bottom of the dress. It took me forever to get it pressed and added, but I got it.
Mr. Shoo and I in front of the red fountain...this was before the heat.
Me and my dress!! Note the pockets...they might be my favorite part of the dress. I had to restitch one of them, as it was droopy after the game.
And the Cardinals won!!
Thanks for the dress compliments. I got compliments from several random people. I was really proud of it.
Casey, I don't know if I could go without baseball. I love it. And Saturday's game was a good one. They won!!
