Guilty Pleasures...

Guilty pleasures...those things we love, but would never tell a soul we can't live without them. We all have them. We all try to hide them. When we're caught, we pretend like they're no big deal...but in reality, we wouldn't be us without these things. I'm going to man-up and share some of my guilty pleasures...don't judge me though because I know you have your own!!

1. Trashy romance novels: As an English teacher, I'm supposed to only read relevant, intelligent, well-written literature. I don't. I love a good trashy romance novel. Whenever I go to the bookstore, I buy at least one. I could read them for hours if I let myself.

2. Peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches: I made one and brought it to work one day and never lived it down. Apparently people over the age of six don't eat these, but I love them. Peanut butter is a diet staple for me, and I love marshmallow fluff. Put them together on bread, and I'm in kindergarten heaven.

3. Awful television shows: Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Rock of Love...can't get enough of them. Mr. Shoo will watch occasionally if it's the only thing on, but he doesn't make it a point to spend his Sunday night sitting on the couch watching them. I do. If I can't for some reason, I will DVR them. I just can't help myself. (On a related note, I'm killing time until I Love Money starts. Put all the craziest characters from crazy-character-filled shows, and I'm sure chaos will ensue.)

4. Making stupid faces in pictures: It never fails...someone breaks out the camera, and instantly, I make the dumbest face I can think of (usually some form of fishy face). Later the pictures show up on MySpace or Facebook, and I'm embarrassed. (Well, not really. I have very little shame. The only time I insist on a picture being taken down is if I have a double chin...which leads me to my next guilty pleasure...)

5. Junk food of all kinds...especially Oreos: Before I started dating Mr. Shoo I was in shape...like really in shape...like running three to five miles at least five times a week in shape. Not so much anymore. I love food...of all kinds, but of course, my favorite is the food that is awful for me: potato chips, candy, cookies, Sonic ice cream sundaes. I've gotten back into running, but for some reason I can't get rid of the belly and the extra pudge to my cheeks. Oh, wait. I know the reason...I can't stay away from the junk.

Honorable mention: Shoes (but I really don't feel guilty about my love of shoes), spending ridiculous amounts of money to get my hair did, embarrassing my husband in public (but again, I don't really feel guilty about it), taking ridiculous numbers of dog pictures and showing them to people, Chinese take-out...

::Edit: I forgot to add my guilty pleasure song choices..."College Girls Are Easy" by Ez E, "Hanging Tough" by New Kids..., "Another Night, Another Dream" by LaBouche, the Fraggle Rock theme song. Oh, the list could go on and on. I love crappy music sometimes.::

So, Humzoo-ers, what are your guilty pleasures??

1) My guilty pleasure is to finish off the Oreos before you know they're gone.

2) Most of my pleasures aren't guilty ones. One I get made to feel guilty about: I like the occasional bottle of beer. My wife says she doesn't mind me drinking the odd beer but often makes comments that seems otherwise.

The pleasures I feel I need are, Watching Premiership Football (the sport known to natural born yanks as soccer), and reading. Other than that I can live without pretty much everything else.

Oh, I do spend rather a lot of time on Humzoo.

3) Listening to the music of Duran Duran. It's all good from the early 1980s to their most recent album released in late 2007.

4) Well Mrs. Shoo a/k/a GTG, I'll take your belly and pudgy cheeks over my 200+ pounds any day! And though I also adore Oreos, I refuse to bring them into the house for fear I'll eat the entire package. I do adore chocolate, but it has to be Ghirardelli or Dove; none of that cheap-ass waxy crap for me. Oh, I'm also an ice cream girl--gotta' have it at least twice a month. *sigh* Ummmm...I'm also a big sucker for my children; they're spoiled!

6) Peanut Butter & fluff sandwich? What the....?
Anything is a guilty pleasure for me now--- unfortunately. I would say having an ice cold root beer is my current one (when should be drinking a diet rite or water).

7) My guilty pleasure is "High School TV", ie "The Hills" or "Gossip Girl", etc. Denny always said it is good that I had a daughter, so now I have someone to watch that crap with. It is a good getaway for me!

Also, red wine. Too much will make my teeth purple though!

8) Guilty Pleasures:

1. taking a bath in the middle of the day just to escape the kids
2. listening to random dance/rave music and just acting like a fool dancing around
3. garlic toast - any kind - I could eat a whole loaf of bread made this way (this would be why we rarely have it in the house)

I am sure there are lots of others but those are the main three I can think of at the moment.

9) French fries and vanilla malteds. Musicals. There are a few I don't like but mostly I enjoy them. I know most folks think they are hokey and no one burst out singing in the rain but I enjoy them and love to sing the songs. Live theater is another one--pricey but I enjoy the live performance. An occasional Coke (not diet) put in the freezer until it is just slushy but not frozen. Coke floats. Hot fudge sundaes with the real homemade hot fudge and whipped cream on top.

10) Peanut Butter and Fluff sandwiches are called fluffer-nutters. I like them too, but can't bring myself to buy a jar because i'd eat it all in a day.

i like to eat ice cream out of the carton with a fork ... does that count? ...and mudslides: frozen, martini, rocks. doesn't matter, they're delicious.

(i also love terrible television. but i missed that new show...don't know how that one got past me!)

11) To Catherine, Try Barg's or A&W Diet Root Beers. They are amazing and the taste from regular root beer is negligible!

12) Sorry to steal your site Mrs. Shoo ---

Niki - You know your dad watches all the stuff, right? so you always had someone to watch it with :)
Hayley   Monday, July 7, 2008
13) Hayley, I do drink A&W diet root beer occasionally (cannot drink Bargs cause of caffiene) but a regular, ice cold root beer is currently my guilty pleasure.

14) Barg's? I thought it was Barq's? Am I dislecksik or is it just a dodgy typefase?

16) My guilty pleasure at the moment is Twizzler's. My poor husband will sometimes buy four bags at a time......cause he knows how they go.....

I like to eat Twizzlers in bed while I read late into the night which is my other guilty pleasure (acting as if I don't have to be functional the next day!). Dh doesn't mind the twizzlers in the bed. He says they are so much quieter than the apples and crackers I used to eat in bed. LOL

17) Hayley, I used to call them fluffer-nutters, but no one ever knew what I was talking about. They thought it was goofy enough that I ate them, let alone had a "cutsy" name for them. I also really like diet rootbeers. They're usually pretty good. Also, this new one is going to be good. Vh1 Sunday nights...it's all the craziest characters from I Love New York, Rock of Love and Flavor of Love...This first was pretty tame, but I'm thinking it's downhill from here.
Reading everyone else's guilty pleasures is reminding me of more. Meg, I also really love garlic toast. When we have spaghetti, Mr. Shoo makes it out of French bread. I could eat the entire loaf.
China, If I start eating anything while I'm reading, it's all over. I just keep putting food in my mouth without thinking because I get so involved in my book. I'll usually keep a giant diet Pepsi around if it isn't too late at night.

18) I am also guilty of eating while reading. I try to keep soy nuts in the house for that purpose - gives me crunch and taste while not being horrible for you.

And fluffer nutters are da bomb!

19) It is Barq's. Sorry for the typo.

20) Mine is peanut M&Ms. I could eat them by the ton. And root beer with lots of ice.

The internet is my latest vice. Bad me!

21) OKAY...so it just occurred to me. I do have a very odd guilty pleasure I partake in. I like to go to www.tacori.com and peruse the engagement and wedding rings. :)

(maybe i should keep that to myself...nah.haha)

24) I was never a wedding ring person, Hayley, but I do go to like.com and look at really expensive shoes all the time.

Bek, when I was a kid I ate butter with brown sugar. I apparently thought it tasted good. I'm a huge peanut butter fan, and I mix it with honey all the time. I might have to try brown sugar.

25) Now I don't feel so bad about my guilty pleasures, and my fellow humzooers we share a lot of the same guilty pleasures. My favorite one is wintergreen life saver mints, I buy them by the BIG bag and can polish it off in a few hours.

26) Kristina, we used to be that way with wintergreen Certs in HS. I don't think I've been able to stomach them since. LOL

Maybe my other guilty pleasure is obsessively buying baking supplies but I usually use them all...does that count? I think I'm up to 30# of butter right now. :)

27) #3 - speaking of awful TV shows... I don't tend to watch most of them anymore--they just annoy me but I have watched HGTV a lot lately and wondered if anyone else gets as annoyed as I do with the "pregnant pause". No, I'm not talking about mommies-to-be. Shows like "what is my house worth?" Where they go, "Your house is worth...................................................................................... $300,000. Drives me nuts.

28) LOve, love, love butter and brown sugar together!!!

LGrant,

29) LOL...Bek, you deserve some brown sugar & butter--make sure Will gets you some soon! :) I agree brown-sugar and butter make an awesome combination. My favorite cookie recipes always contain some brown sugar. Like caramel-butter!

30) Yummmmmm butter and brown sugar, peanut butter and honey, marshmallow fluff on anything.... it's all sounding too good. Also juicy pear jelly bellies. I could eat an entire bag of just that flavor. They're awesome.
And in the non-food category: I have an addiction to picture frames. You'd think as a photographer there'd be tons of framed photos in my house. Not true. I have picture frames, bunches of them, empty... in boxes. Can't pass up a pretty picture frame, but never get around to putting just the right picture in it.

31) Peanut butter on anything; doritos; trying on expensive clothes I have no intention or means of buying; pretty-smelling lotions, although I recently threw out about 5 years worth of 1/2 empty (or half full) bottles and have resolved to not buy any more until my current supply is gone; pretty candles; Frankie Valli's "oh what a night" is by far my favorite cheezy dance song.

32) The girls have pretty much taken this one over. I'll add falling asleep on the couch while watching "This Old House" or the History Channel. Yeah, I'll watch when I'm awake, but isn't it better to take it in subliminally?
Joe   Tuesday, July 8, 2008

33) Joe, I think television is always better when I'm asleep. I'm going to enjoy some subliminal history right now.

35) Betsy, I totally thought that said "farting" ... until I re-read it.

Kristina, I LOVE those lifesavers too. You know if you bite them in the dark you can see the spark they left off when you break 'em.
