This just burns my bubble...

The Illinois Times for some reason has a thing against bloggers in Springfield. A few months ago, the person who writes the Cap City section decided to write a somewhat sarcastically scathing blurb about the blogging community in Springfield. I've tried to find the article, but I can't. Basically, they said that the bloggers in Springfield who live in their parents' basements, play on the computer in their underwear and do nothing else.
My husband is very active in the blogging community of Springfield. He, in fact, spent a lot of time neglecting me and creating Springfield Bloggers; he's kept blogs for a decade now; and he's made some very good friends through the blogging scene. Plus, he just enjoys it.
When the first article came out, Chris laughed. I, on the other hand, wrote a nasty letter to the editor expressing my disgust at the ignorance that was published. I was spitting mad.
Well. They did it again. (Scroll down to the bottom.) Whoever writes this column has decided to pick on the blogging community for the plan to meet at the Sliders game.

This time Chris took offense. He decided that if Springfield blogging is good enough for both Channel 20 and the SJR, then maybe the Illinois Times should just lay off!! For a rather offensive, but quite funny response to the IT writer, click on the link. (No Rickroll, promise.)

And I promise he wrote the blog wearing pants...in our living room!!

1) What a crappy pansy-ass little blurb. I left my own comment on the Illinois Times page.

2) Ha. I just read your comment, soundchick. I don't understand how anyone can be criticized for trying to create a sense of community.

3) Maybe ole Cap City was pissed off because he/she had to go out and find another story (because the bloggers at the game story didn't work out) and couldn't muster the creativity of a normal person's cut fingernails to come up with something good to write about.

4) I left a comment (registered and everything), but it looks like they removed it. I grabbed a screenshot of it before they did though:

7) I stand by my opinion that IL Times is just evil. It is run by the devil himself.
Those people have no souls.
Bloggers are NICE.

10) WOW, he has NO clue who we really are does he? He might try reading the about me's... hello, I haven't seen my Parents basement since ...hmmm.. 1978 or something? And getting together a large group of people that WORK and have FAMILIES is always a challenge.

He is either very jealous or a short timer waiting to retire.

11) And who uses "IRL" in an article for a newspaper? It took me way too long to even figure out what that stood for. I was all "What does the Indy Racing League have to do with this?"

12) That poor guy SO wants to blog, but his boss at the IT definitely won't allow it because bloggers are their biggest competition. They certainly aren't in the same boat as real media. I say they're out of business in five years. I think Operation Downstate is about to get some Shoo time.

13) Oh hell yeah, O.D. needs a jumpstart for sure. I am a lot more interested in that than my level of activity (or lack thereof) suggests, and I probably think about it daily. Let's make it happen.

14) Dave, your comment is great!!
Is OD the thing in the lock box with the giant metal chain around it with the huge padlock that Shoo won't let me see?

16) It will burn your retinas if you look at it without a welder's mask. Be very careful...I think we overclocked the FMU on it.

17) Very entertaining blog. I laughed very hard at the comments to Cap City at the link. Sound chick was spot on. What a jerk.

18) Well, what the event lacked in population, it's certainly made up for in postings. (Perhaps appropriate, given the common trait we were there to celebrate.)

Even funnier is that an IT staffer was two rows behind the "gaggle of geeks" and couldn't even recognize three of them whose pictures have been in the SJ-R - two of them on a fairly regular basis.
