Sushi, anyone?
Mr. Shoo went to a wedding last night. I was supposed to go. It was supposed to be a great time. Supposed. I spent my night on the couch eating garlic bread, watching movies and doing embroidery. Needless to say, I was really disappointed to miss out. But, alas, I have parent/teacher conferences next week, and I don't want to be the sneezy, runny nose, coughy teacher with a man voice. I want to feel better.
I did get to eat cheesy garlic bread, which I love. I watched two decent movies--Penelope (which I adored, and I might write about after I watch it again) and Baby Mama (not as funny as I'd hoped, but okay).
But my favorite part of the evening was my embroidery. I've decided that on top of my machine-sewing, I'd like to take up embroidery. It's cheap and easy and can travel (pretty sure my machine can't). So, I ordered a little kit, and I broke it out last night.
Here's what I came up with.

I've joined Craftster, a place to share crafts and get ideas for new ones. They do "swaps" on there, where people swap materials or crafts. I've signed up for one. I'm going to help someone out by sending her pinking shears, but I'd also like to send something homemade. She loves anything sushi-related, so I want to send her something sushi. I don't know that I'll send this, as it's just on a piece of muslin, but I wanted to practice.

Here it is next to a needle for perspective. I did it freehand, which I'm really proud of, and I used a stitch I'd never used before--note the little French knots that make up the rice. They're harder than they look.
I'm thinking I'll make a bigger one and frame it to send with the package.
This ain't yo mama's cross stitch! (Don't ask where that came from...)

Again, great job on the cross stitch!
But do have to say you make lovely french knots. Lots better than I can.
I probably won't ever do it on Hardanger 22 again. A little small for computer-tired eyes. LOL
