Tuesday, May 5th, 2009I play with tape... Yup. I have rolls of tape. I prefer double-sided tape. My husband finds tape stuck to the bottom of his sock. It's an odd habit...one that annoys my husband to no end.
I also play with tape for a reason. I'm a kinesthetic learner. I learn best by doing. If someone gives me directions, I get lost; whereas, if I drive somewhere, typically I can easily find the same place again. Once I've
done something, I can do it again pretty easily.
I also have to be moving constantly. I'm rarely able to hold still. I'm at my best if I'm up and moving around or actually doing something. I've always said I do my best thinking in the shower...because I'm doing something. This is where the tape comes in (not the shower)...it gives me something to do with my hands.
When I was a kid, I used to fold or tear up small pieces of paper. I'd have little pieces of confetti on my desk by the end of class. My teachers used to think it was some issue with me. They thought I was obsessive compulsive. I always thought I was an oddball. It wasn't until college that I learned about different types of learners and realized maybe I'm not so strange.
What kind of learner are you? This is definitely geared toward students, but it's still interesting.
I am an auditory learner.
In high school my religion teacher told my parents that he thought I was cheating because on the essay tests I would write down verbatim what he talked about during class a month earlier. He thought it was sort of scary.
Sarah, sometimes when people ask me a question or if I am at a trivia night, I may not know the answer outright, but I will know what it starts with or what it sounds like. I sort of go through a mental filing cabinet.
Each nite I usually eat a square or two of that lovely dove chocolate. I ALWAYS fold the wrapper in half and then in thirds and play/fiddle with it while we are watching tv, it drives jason nuts but I find it so comforting ;)
