june: one yearDear June Bug,
I realize that I am a month late on this one, but you know life kind of gets in the way of writing to you lately. You are one amazing girl who everyone immediately falls in love with. You love to give hugs, wave and blow kisses. People constantly want to talk to you and tell us how cute you are. You are pretty cute. You are also at the stage where you have figured out how to climb stairs very quickly and open cabinets and empty them out even quicker. You know when you are doing something you shouldn't be, and that just prompts you to speed up. When you turned one, you had 4 teeth and were crawling quickly and pulling up. You still have 4 teeth, but you have recently started to take many steps on your own at a time, but you are still not quite ready to walk all of the time. You get so excited when you do walk though and love to clap for yourself or push my hands together to clap for you.
For your first birthday we invited some close friends and family over for a Bluegrass and BBQ party. We were able to sweep your mullet back into pigtails and you enjoyed devouring your cupcake. Dylan helped me make pig and chicken cupcakes for the occasion. Unfortunately you did not get to eat the marshmallows or candy on top, but it was your first time eating sweets so you did not even notice. After being on only breast milk for your first year, you really did great weaning and are a pro at drinking cow's milk. You were completely weaned by 12 and 1/2 months from nursing and bottles, and just finished your last bag of freezer milk last week. I am very proud of how good you did with giving up one of your favorite things.
You still haven't formed many words yet, but you do have certain sounds you make for the dogs and other things. You understand a lot of what we say. You have started to call Dylan, "N" which she did not like at first but now is embracing to the point that she may have her name legally changed to that letter. Your current love, besides anything with cheese, is our fish (Banjo). You love to stand by the shelf in the kitchen and talk to him while he swims around his bowl. I can only imagine that you are telling him stories from the beach and reminding him of a life of freedom.
You are such a Mama's girl, and choose me to put you to bed (or do pretty much everything). You do love to spend time with your Dad and enjoy having him push you in the swing. With your sister it is more of a love and hate relationship where one moment you are hugging her and the next you are pinching her or pulling her hair. You guys are already fighting over toys in the bath and playroom. You can tell that she is really starting to get on your nerves some days (for the record, that makes two of us). Emmet is still your favorite dog, but that is because he stays very still while you pound him repeatedly with your fist.
You are 23 and 1/2 lbs. You love to eat, and mushroom pizza and macaroni and cheese are now some of your favorite things. There really are not too many foods that you dislike and we find you stuffing food so fast into your mouth that you end up hoarding it and taking forever to chew it up or I don't even get to touch my dinner because I am constantly breaking yours up into small bites to keep up with your appetite. We do find that when you get tired of your veggies you end up throwing them on the floor in hopes that we won't see you and the dogs will get to them first.
You love the bath and you loved playing on the beach. I am sure you are going to really enjoy the pool this summer. You also still love to dance. You like to clap and move up and down when you hear something you like. You and your sister are suddenly into any rap music that comes on the radio in the car while I am surfing stations. It is like a conspiracy where your sister tells me that is the song she wants to hear and you starting moving and clapping. I have given up on listening to what I want to anymore, but at least it is not Barney.
Looking forward to the next few months of getting to play out in the warm weather. I can't wait until you start talking more. I can tell you have a lot to say, especially to Dylan.
