Weekend Update

We went over and hung out on Friday night at Kitch and Grant's house where we had a delicious dinner that they fixed for us (babyback ribs). Dylan went to sleep in her pack-n-play while we hung out a bit. She really enjoyed hanging out with Annie, Bella, Beck and Emmet.

The gas prices right now are crazy, I even caught this lawnmower on Friday night filling up in the line at the station before they ran out of gas.

How about the Carolina Panthers? Coming back at the end of the game to beat the Chicago Bears! Actually I should not give them that much credit as seeing the offense played pretty bad yesterday, until they came back to win it at the end of the game. I am still tired from the game and have some killer sunburn. 90 degree weather just does not feel like football. Hottest game I can remember going to. Hopefully, the Panthers will do better the next home game and actually lead most of the time. Makes it so much more fun for the ticketholders!

We got Dylan a cool new play kitchen this weekend, and she has cooked some fabulous meals. We have taken the ping pong table out of the dining room and are in the process of converting it into a playroom. When we got home from the game yesterday, she and Nana had turned the new playroom into a diner, and she was serving up some delicious cloth hotdogs.

Denny is out of town this week on business and was out of town last week and will be out of town the following week. I know it has been hard on him because he really misses Dylan. Hard on me too, because I am playing full time parent and holding down the full-time job too. I guess that is life, and we need to pay the bills. He gets back late Wednesday night and Thursday we head to D.C. to visit my brother Troy, and his girlfriend Hayley, and then head to Baltimore to see our friends Angie and Rob. Denny's parents are headed to the beach and taking Dylan with them. We come back on Monday, and then Denny heads back out of town Tuesday morning.
He said Dylan melted his heart this morning when she would not let go of him at daycare. I think she is also not used to getting up as early as she has been because of the new routine. Hopefully, she will adjust.

Kitch and Grant have been helping me out on Wednesday nights watching Dylan while Denny is out of town so I can attend my sewing class. Last week we learned all of the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread the bobbin and machine. I took sewing in Home Economics in middle school, but have never really learned how to sew. Our class is six weeks, every Wednesday night from 6-9pm, and our project will be pajama bottoms. I am glad I am taking the class, but I forgot what long classes were like especially after working all day and having your husband out of town. Hopefully I will be able to hem some jeans by the time this class is over. :)

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Did anyone catch Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin on SNL? That was hilarious.

1) Jeez! How do you keep track of your own schedule? Yes! I was hoping Tina would be Sarah Palin and I loved every second of it! One of the best sketches of the past 10 years, I would say. Not only is she a dead ringer for her, but she nailed a lot of her mannerisms. A shout to Amy Poehler as well for her Hillary Clinton. Loved it as well!

2) Soundchick, I used to be able to remember my schedule, but sadly with age and after becoming a mom I tend to have to rely on my calendar more and more. Aren't women better at keeping up with everything? ;)

3) Good blog, Niki - one of my good friends is also a "single parent" periodically while her husband makes runs to Atlanta for his job; she has three daughters (6, 9 and 11), and I don't know how she keeps track of everything, like their school activities, church activities and sports schedules. It's tiring just listening to her sometimes! Good luck while Denny is away, and I'll have to look to YouTube for the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin clip.

PS. Relying on your calendar more and more has a lot to do with age; trust me, I know this.

4) Niki...sounds like you get up running and don't stop until you lie down again each night. Mamaw and I were talking about Denny and your schedule yesterday--both of us amazed at how you do it all. She got the ping-pong table wrong and told me it was a pool table. LOL She did mention Dylan's new kitchen and I hope we get to see some pictures of that soon--sounds really cool. Maybe Ethan and Mia will want to come back and visit soon to play in the new playroom area. I'm glad the family is there to assist until Denny gets settled into his new job and maybe the travel lessens a bit. I know it is hard on him being away from Dylan and hard on you being a single-parent so much. Hope you keep taking care of yourself. Sounds like you are doing a great job--even if it takes a calendar! :) I don't manage all that WITH a calendar. LOL

6) Niki,
I watched on Saturday night and literally peed my pants! It was great and she totally nailed it, down to the accent when she said "small town". Did you catch when she said she was running fpr president? LOL!

7) Somebody just sent me that link via e-mail and I was amazed how much Palin looks like Fey. That is one of the best skits I have seen in a long time.

9) Niki, I'm so impressed with all that you guys have going on. Roger and I are so tired on the weekends that we do NOTHING. Maybe it's a good thing that we live far away and don't have any friends nearby right now. I can't wait to see Dylan in her kitchen! So cute!

10) Merritt,
Let's face it, you guys didn't really have any friends here. ZING!

Totally kidding, I am your friend.

11) Apparently the whole blog called "I want my Humzoo back" was deleted--all the comments and the name of the blog doesn't exists. I was going to comment Niki that I look forward to your stories and photos to help us all get our Humzoo back. Even if someone is deleting whole blogs now! :D

13) Well, Hayley's earlier one as well as her account vanished so maybe that is part of it. Who knows. As you said, focus on the good stuff. Yeah, someone mentioned Betsy being absent lately and China--I thought about her when reading the blog about the $3.61 cents. Both are missed. :)
