It's The End Of The World As We Know It

We are headed to Raleigh this afternoon to go and see R.E.M. play at Walnut Creek. They are headlining with The National & Modest Mouse opening up for them. We will be going and staying with our friend from college Selena, and her boyfriend Stephen and another friend. Dylan had a rough night last night, so I am working on very little sleep and hoping to get a second wind this evening. We are dropping her and the dogs off in Winston to stay with my parents for the evening.

I am very excited about the show and seeing our friends, but Denny read an article recently that said they were to play all songs off their new album. I mean I am sure they will throw in "Everybody Hurts" and "Losing my Religion" but I haven't listened to too many of the new songs, so it may not be quite as fun. I am glad Michael Stipe and the band are churning out new songs, but I still want to know "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"

Also, the concert starts at 6pm. I know R.E.M. is getting a little older, but I sure feel like a geriatric going to a rock concert at 6. Maybe we should stop at K&W at 4pm and grab dinner.

2) Ethan and I saw Bruce Springsteen recently, and he did the whole, "play songs from the new album but fail to play "Born in the USA"" thing. Very annoying. Hopefully REM will surprise you and play their classics. I do have their new album and it's pretty good. But you're right - it's just not the same if you can't sing along! Hope it's good!!!

3) We saw Alicia Keys at the Allstate Arena on Saturday. I only knew a few of her hits.

4) Oh that should be fun! I saw REM in Greensboro back in 96 or 97 and it was fun watching Micheal Stipe squirm in the same spot for 3 hours. They started early for that show too!

5) "Stand in the place where you live, now face North and think about direction, wonder why you haven't before...if you're confused check with the Sun, carry a compass the help you along...if wishes were trees, the trees would be falling, listen to reason, reason is calling..."

Have fun!!!

6) It should be a good show regardless. R.E.M. has played an important part on the music of our generation. While I don't listen to them on a daily basis I'd never pass up a chance to see them. I had the opportunity to go to a Pink Floyd show in high school and passed it up. I still can't sleep at night because of that decision. I'm not about to let it happen again. Songs I am hoping to hear tonight: Driver 8, Crush Eyeliner, Night Swimming, Orange Crush and Fall on Me. I know, my expectations are super low but they can do it.

7) Modest Mouse should be kick-A. I saw them once a long time ago, and they rocked my socks!

8) Yeah, I hope Modest Mouse plays some stuff off of their older album too.

9) Their new CD is pretty good. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I get to go see Loretta Lynn later this month and Fergie in August. I know Fergie probably isn't going to be in the Rock N Roll hall of fame, but I think her stuff is pretty cool, except I hate that stupid London Bridge song.

10) I'd love to see Loretta Lynn, especially if Mr. White joins her. Rumor has it they are going to do another album together. The last one was awesome.

I have been listening to the new R.E.M. album all morning and I agree Soundchick its pretty good. Its got some nice hooks and I think it will be fun to see them play the new songs live. You know, in between the old ones.

11) Have a great time! Do you have GA seating? And thus will you need binoculars? That's the only thing I hate about seeing such good bands is that I am usually soooo far away. And I've ben spoiled by some great venues. Love REM.
