Week of Music

We had a great time at the R.E.M. concert in Raleigh on Tuesday night. The National, Modest Mouse & R.E.M. did not disappoint. I am getting old though and was very tired when coming to work this morning.

Saturday night I am taking my mom to Asheville to see Alison Krauss & Robert Plant play. I gave her the tickets as a birthday/mother's day present in May. I am excited, but I think my husband is a little jealous that he is not going to the show. For those of you who have not heard the Raising Sand album that they released together, I highly recommend you check it out.

Here is one of the songs off the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WRm3VsmXRE&feature=rela...

Denny also wanted to go to Winston tonight to see The Everybodyfields play, one of our favorite bands, but I am just too tired this week and will not be able to get up and go to work tomorrow if we do that. He has to practice his violin tonight anyway, so Dylan and I will just listen to the soothing sounds of violin practice.

1) Yes I am totally jealous! But Dylan and I will be rocking out to the album at home. And playing violin... this week's lesson was to learn Freebird.

Dylan and I are leaving for the Everybodyfields show at 6pm... you are welcome to join us.

3) "sooth sounds of violin practice" ... kinda oxymoronic (was that the idea?!)

6) Hayley, I was totally kidding when I said "soothing sound of violin practice," but don't tell Denny. He does not know about this site, right?

7) I thought you might be. : ) I'll bet Freebird sounds more like a dieing bird.

Nah, I don't think he does.

...If he does, by dieing, I meant melodic.

8) I keep thinking of a scene in the movie Elizabethtown when the band Rukus re-forms and plays Freebird. During the song a giant model bird slides down a wire.....I think it causes a fire by knocking over a candle or something. Hilarious.

9) Have a great time in Asheville. It is soooo beautiful there. I love all the young hippies in that town... I guess they are yippies.

14) Have a great time with your mom, Niki. I know Alison's music but not Robert Plant (at least not that I know!). I know the music will be great and Asheville is always wonderful too. Hope you have great weather and a safe trip!!

15) Linda, you don't know Robert Plant? Lead singer of Led Zeppelin.

16) Sorry, Niki. I'm not that literate with music like you and Denny. And I don't think I was ever a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm sure that is close to saying I don't believe in America to some but there it is. :)

17) I'm too young to have experienced Led Zep at the time but I discovered them later in life and still love them. I'm lucky enough to have seen Robert Plant twice: Once when he toured after the release of Manic Nirvana and once at Glastonbury Festival when he played with Jimmy Page. Magnificent! Have a great time.
