Saturday, December 12th, 2009dylan: two years and nine months Dear Dylan,
Christmas is quickly approaching and I have realized that I need to write to you and let you know how things are going in your life from my perspective. You are less than 3 months from turning 3 years old, and time seems to have flown by so fast for your dad and me. Your Uncle Troy lived with us for 4 months and during that time you got to spend a lot of time with him and have a lot of fun. He was your partner in crime and Daddy's drinking buddy. He moved out over Thanksgiving, and one night shortly after that when we were eating dinner you suddenly said something in a very sad voice. At first I did not catch it, but then realized that you said, "My uncle ran away..." It was so hard for me to keep from laughing at that statement, because I know you were very sad. You definitely miss him.
You have had another ear infection recently and if you get one more this winter than it is back to the ENT for another tube and your adenoids out. We will do whatever to make you feel better, since I know the ear infections are miserable. It does make it hard however to figure out what is going on with you because you are so temperamental lately. You want to do everything yourself and would seriously wear a tube top when it is 20 degrees outside (you would also claim that you are not cold). At bedtime, we have struggled with the stalling lately and getting out of bed a couple of times, including sometimes very early in the morning. You like to come into bed and position yourself on top of my head with your arm coiled tightly around my neck. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time sleeping like that. You always want the last word, so at bedtime you say, "I love you. Goodnight. I love you, Mommy." Then I say, "I love you too, Dylan." To which you then have to start over so you can have the last word. You get very upset if you don't give both Daddy and me a big hug and a kiss after you are in bed.
You are 28 lbs. and we are thinking you may finally break the 30 lb. mark after your birthday. You love snacks and will only eat yours at home if you can put it in a plastic baggie. So much for being environmentally friendly. You still love to sing and dance, and have now upped the ante on your performances by creating your own lyrics and melodies. We just need to work on the key of your melodies.
You are getting ready to move into a new bedroom at the beginning of next year because of the baby that is arriving in March/April. You are very excited about the "big girl" room that we are going to create that includes a new rocking chair that is your size. We told you about this awhile ago, but when the chair arrived we decided to leave it in the box and wait until the room is ready so you continue to use the room you are in now. This has caused you to say, "Do you want to go see my new rocking chair?" When we do, you show us the rocking chair that is in the nursery that we have used since infancy. I wish this worked with everything and we could save a lot of money. I showed you a gap ad the other day that came in the mail with all of these cute little babies on it (all boys). I asked you which one you wanted to be your little brother, and you replied, "Which one is the girl?" I hope for your sake that this baby does turn out to be a girl, because you so want a sister.
You are already getting excited about Christmas, and we go and visit Santa next week. You have told me that you are going to ask him for popsicles, but you don't want him to actually come to our house because he is a little scary. At school one of the kid's parents in your class is from Holland, and they came to talk about Christmas over there and Sinder Klass. You were so excited when Sinder Klass left something in your shoe at nap time, and now would permanently leave your shoes outside of the door every night for treats if we let you. We finally decorated the house last night and you made us laugh when you put the stockings on your feet and walked around the house. You could take your show on the road.
We can't wait to see all the changes that take place with you in 2010 and with adding another little one to our brood. No matter what, we hope you keep your hilarious personality because one day you are going to make us a lot of money.
Love you more than you know,
Mommy
I can't wait for her to be such a great big sis!
