Back in business
Ah, it's good to be back. I've been tied up lately and havn't posted anything new in a while. Anyway, as I've mentioned before, I'm a stay-at-home father and do a bit of private contract work on the side when time permits. My youngest is in afternoon kindergarten for about 3 hours each day, so I watch a lot of movies (I also LOVE Court TV). I'm going to begin posting some brief reviews of the stuff I see and maybe guide you toward some gems and away from some turds. Last night my Mom and I watched Before The Devil Knows Your Dead starring Philip Seymore Hoffman and Ethan Hawke. This is a story of two brothers (Hoffman and Hawke) who hatch a robbery scheme to try and make some quick cash each for their own reasons. Needless to say the scheme backfires and the rest of the film is about how they'll be able to avoid being caught. I would give this movie a C+. It started so promisingly and Hoffman is such a fantastic actor I was anxious to see how it would play out. It kind of dragged on after a while and didn't pay off the way I thought it would. P.S. Hoffman is always great and was the only redeeming part that kept me watching until the end. Watch at your own risk. (Oh, and boys, you do get to see Marisa Tomei completely nude - sorry ladies). For those who've seen it, what did you think?
I've almost watched it. I love the actors. But I had heard a lot of not so good reviews. I think you've just added one more reason why I probably won't see this (at least for a long time).
I rarely see movies...I'm a SAHM with little time before 8:30pm, which is when, ten minutes after I sit down on the sofa, I fall asleep. I do like PSH, so maybe someday.
PS. Have you seen Juno, or is that considered a 'chick flick'? I'd like to rent it someday, but watching it in ten minute increments, I'll probably incur late fees...
Juno is awesome and not a chick flick!
I agree, "Juno" is perfectly acceptable for guys. In fact, it's a great film.
ozthegreat, I haven't seen that movie. I heard about it, though. Last night, I watched "Bobby." I'd give that a B.
I haven't seen Bobby, but it's on my list. Juno was a fun little movie and I really enjoyed it. I love the soundtrack too.
It made me want to drink a boat load of Sunny-D.
I took my nephews to see "Iron Man" this morning. Pretty good superhero flick.
Just watched "The Orphange." Very scary at times.
When it all wraps up at the end you realize what a good and well told story it really was. Did you hear that that Gulliermo Del Toro (Pan's Labryinth) is directing the two Hobbit films due out in 2010? Those should be good! No Bill, I didn't mention the director because of his name. Guil!
I watched "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" on Sunday. It was okay. I'd agree with your C+ grade. You probably shouldn't have stated that Marisa Tomei was nude. You should have have stated that, if you look carefully, she's fully clothed in one scene. That must have been a cold movie shoot for her.
