Cheating On My Girlfriend...Sorta

Wow...so this is what it feels like. I have this ever sinking knot building in my stomach. I know that this is wrong but I have this overwhelming hunger of curiosity. Just once, I tell myself, just one time and never again. I just want to see what it's like. Something new and different, I said I would never do this, but I just can't resist temptation.

I bought digital music on Amazon...not iTunes.

Please forgive me Mr. Jobs! I just had to try it, everyone else was doing it.

In fairness and open disclosure I must say that I bleed Apple grey, always have and always will. I try every new thingamabob that surfaces on the intarweb, but had always steered clear of Amazon's supposed iTunes killer for the previously stated reasons. Frankly I never really needed anything other than iTunes. All of the media players I own are of the iPod family, so DRM'd files are not an issue for me. The quality isn't an issue either, I can only tell a difference with certain music, hardly worth worrying about. So why would I sway from the heaven that is iTunes?

Gas cost a flippin arm and a leg and if I can save money I'm going to.

Amazon's downloads on some/most things are cheaper. Snow Patrol's Eyes Open for instance was two bucks cheaper than iTunes. Score. The process is relatively painless, you just download the Amazon MP3 app and it automatically drops the files into iTunes. No muss No Fuss. The files are also DRM free and will work on any media player under the sun and are 256Kbps files. Apple has the same thing going but only with music from EMI's label.

So which do I use? If I know what I want Amazon, if I'm in a shopping mood iTunes. Apple has produced the golden standard for shopping for media online, searching is easy and it tunes me into stuff I hadn't heard yet. +1 for Apple. Amazon isn't hard, its just not nearly as intuitive as iTunes.

Either way, with more money going the way of Mr. Oil Man, two bucks is two bucks, sorry Apple. :(

For the record, I love my girlfriend VERY VERY much and would NEVER cheat on her. Maybe with my Macbook Pro, but I digress

1) Sinner! How could you? I hope you know this is how computers catch viruses. You tell yourself "only once," but the next thing you know, your hard drive has a flaming case of digital herpes. Sure, you thought you were protected. But sooner or later your iTunes songs will find out and will all turn into Ace of Base songs.

2) It's kinda a like slumming... you have to do it every now and again to remind yourself how the "others" live.
