7/11/08 ALPM Trip
Today was the last day my goddaughter (GD) was going to be with us so I took her and Bubba on a trip to the:

All too often, I hear of people who have extraordinary places to visit in their own town yet do not take the time to visit them. I did not want to be one of those people, nor did I want to rob the children a chance to do something both fun and educational (I do realize that taking a 4 and 5 year old does not add up to a ton of education, but they did walk away with some facts).
The kids wanted a picture of this so here it is...

Okay, upon entering the museum, I wanted to take as many pictures as possible to document all that we saw due to Mr. P being unable to come with us. Unfortunately, the kids had to use the restroom so all I got from the lobby was this:

Actually, there are not many places within the museum that you can take pictures. While understandable, it still hurt. So many items were yearning for their pictures to be taken...Oh well. Here are a couple of pics of the lobby/plaza area:
The log cabin of Young Abe:

Young Abe himself holding his favorite book as a child, Aesop's Fables, along with two little munchkins...

We watched a great story on the life of Lincoln. The kids were a little nervous due to the loud sound effects and occasional lightning, smoke, gunfire, etc. but we made it through the entire 17 minutes.

Ghosts of the Library was another neat production. It explained why it is necessary to retain old documents, artifacts, etc. The visual effects were outstanding and the children loved it!

Here are Bubba and my GD waiting for the doors to open for the Ghost show:

Here is the entrance to the exhibit of Lincoln's White House years...

I lost the kids for a moment. I found them hanging out with the Lincoln family:

The kids' favorite part of the trip was Mrs. Lincoln's attic. Here the kids were able to play dress up, play with toys from the Lincoln period, etc. They had a wonderful time and so did i!

Look at my boy, so militant...I doubt my GD would approve of him messing up her picture...

Look at the cute couple...

Okay, I will have to post the rest of the pic in an album because I am pretty exhausted. I will say that I cannot wait to go back when I do have the kids with me, it is truly spectacular and I am proud that the museum can call Springfield home.

1) I love the dress up pictures! I bet the children will remember this trip for a long time!
2) One of the first years it opened I took my Parents to see it, of course I had no idea I had not allowed enough time, it was huge. We all loved the Ghost show though, it is the best I think. Thanks for sharing, your 2 munchkins are cutie patuties ... however it is spelled. note to self.. go visit the museum again.
3) These picutres are great. I looking forwars to going there on my next visit to Springfield. I can't believe I missed it the last time. That and Danes are at the top of my list.
4) Danes lol! I actually was passing by there on Sunday and wanted to kick myself because they were already closed. I wanted to see what peculiar discount offerings they had this week...
5) Fun trip and very cute kids.
