Snow in North Carolina
Our county borders Virginia and we are effected by the Saur Mountains (Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock)It took awhile to get here but we made up for lost time.I think it started around 7pm and hasn't stopped yet. Now it is blowing and the snow has turned to ice pellets to put frosting on the white fluffy stuff. If we loose power we can go get in Queenie since we can turn on the propane and have 12v power.
Last snow
8am this morning and still coming!
the plow has been through once
check out the slide
The table on our porch
.
Thank goodness this is the weekend but since the weather is staying in the 20's this isn't going to resolve very quickly so I think the kids will be out for awhile. Also thank goodness I am no longer responsible for 400 lives and nursing coverage!!!!What am I going to do today? I'm staying in my jammies for awhile and then trek out to the studio and paint. Intersting lighting.
10am Snow needles-ouch
@pm Clifford and I went for a walk
It still is misting and that doesn't bold well for tomorrow, the ice will be awful
Unfortunately one of the town's maitenance guys fell early this morning when he went to start the plow. He lay there until the other guys came in with a severely broken leg. I think they have given up trying to clear the streets.
Our shed
Memories of the good old summertime. I put our old dog Sandy in the basement because she was really struggling in the snow. It felt like a heat wave down there. LOl At least it is DRY!
4:30pm its snowing again

1) Beautiful house in the snow, Dannie. We are covered here too with about 7 inches and it's still coming down. Hope you have a cozy day!

4) I feel your pain. It is sunny here but very cold. It looks like your snow storm will not hit the east coast. Hip Hip Hurray! Stay cozy and warm my friend!

7) Great photos! My family all lives in the moutains in NC -- around Asheville. They are getting the snow too. I can remember my dad being stranded at my stepsister's house for 3 days during the winter when it snowed one time. Her driveway when down a hill and he couldn't get back up. And my stepsister lives in West Virginia and has really been hit this winter with the snow. I love the photo of the white house -- my dream is to have a house with a nice big porch on it someday. I have a feeling I may have to enjoy others -- can't see moving in the future.

9) My "step" family lives in Old Fort. My parents are buried in Black Moutain. My mother went to Swannanoa High School and she was born in Weaverville. My great-grandfather was a country physician who built a house in Weaverville. When the last of the family died they sold the old homestead to a woman (retired physician) who put lots and lots of money into it and turned renovated it to look like it did when my grandfather built it. She turned it into a working farm and made it a Bed and Breakfast. It is so neat to go back and stay there with all the memories I have of when I used to visit when I was a child. She even renovate the old outhouse (but just for looks, not for use.) I also have some relatives that live in Charlotte. I never lived in NC as my parents moved to Detroit, MI during the war to get employment. But we visited NC at least once or twice a year while I was growing up and I still try to go back at least once a year. I consider it my home.

11) I love the Weavereville area, actuallly there isn't a part of that country that I don't love. I think we maybe related.LOL I grew up in Michigan! What is the name of the B&B? We were just talking about making a run up there and staying in a B&B.I had a Black Mountain mailing address when I lived off Highway 9. You know about 9? The worst road ever. LOL

13) The Bed & Breakfast is called Oxford Farm. She doesn't advertise it in any of the magazines but she is listed in the phonebook. She a little German lady, about 4 feet tall, and I would imagine she is in her 80s. She has it set up as a working farm and she is out there feeding and tending to animals every morning. There is one drawback -- she has peacocks that came there on there own. They are beautiful animals but we made the mistake of staying there in the springtime during mating season. They fly in the trees at night and they screech half the night. My relatives that were with us hardly slept all night. So if you go-- make sure it isn't mating season for peacocks. One morning when we were there a cow woke us up in the morning - mooing and mooing. Then we found out why -- she had just had a calf. We got to see it out in the pasture stand up for the first time. It's a great place if you like animals!

14) Dannie, here is the website:

When you read about it, Nancy and the doctor are my great grandparents. My grandmother was born there and I believe my mother may have been too.
