The Challenge and my yard projects

Today I started at 8am by cleaning out all the trash from where we had the animals and some of the leftovers from the previous owner. We borrowed our neighbor's truck and piled some of their junk on too. While I was picking up a pile of shingles I discovered what looked like two snakes. I backed off so fast I'm not positive. I yelled, of course, and that was pretty much the end of me picking up the neighbor's junk. We rode off to the dump which is actually a pretty ride, great views of Hanging Rock and Cook's Wall. When we got back Richard went in to rest and I washed out the truck. I then got my herb garden back in shape. I planted several new things and rescued others from weeds. I took the 4 wheeler down to get gas for a push mower we have because I wanted to mow down the old chicken yard-talk about weeds, that chicken poop is atomic. We couldn't get the mower started so I guess I will have to do it with the string trimmer. Next I spread two trailer loads of mulch, it was so saturated from all the rain, I just tossed it out in clumps and when it dries some I will rake it to spread better. Then I took the 4wheeler and my John Deere trailer down to another neighbor who had several dump truck loads of free leaf mulch. He said I could have as much as I liked and it made a great top dressing for the herb garden.
I dumped a bunch where we removed the dead dogwood to prepare for the new magnolia.I ate some grapes for lunch on the run and as before I fixed my water bottles the night before so that wasn't a problem. In the course of the day I planted several pots of plants, trimmed the dead wood out of the blueberries and a crepe myrtle in the front. I also fertilized all the new stuff I have planted over the past few days.I have taken before pictures and hopefully tomorrow I will make after so you can see the results of my labor. It was after 6pm when I came in to take a shower. We are going forward with our next major project-turning the old garage into my studio-stay tuned for the before pictures of Whimiscality Art's new home:>

4) I think my sister (Gigi) has a story about Hanging Rock. I vaguely remember some family story about her swinging from the rail up there. I think I was a baby at the time, probably suffering from car-sickness. I spent my whole childhood sick or knocked out on Dramamine.

6) My back hurts reading this! Way to go Mom! I have been able to meet my steps all week so far. It's a little more challenging than I thought with my work schedule. I've been heading to the Park at lunch to get in some walking and then running or walking after work. My shin splints must be getting better because last night I was able to run again. However, not very far. Oh well. How is the water treating you?

7) Since I have become a yard slave the water isn't so bad. I did have to get up last night but on the other hand I have eliminated one pill for my sugar:>I get my blood drawn the end of the month so that is an additional incentive. The better my yard looks the more inspired I get. We are starting a "Pink Flamingo Award" on the street because some of the folks have gotten insane about working in the yard. Its a good thing because its contagious and more and more are working on their yards. Its already a pretty street We did get the derelict across from Don's torn down. I am starting the award by putting it in Chad and Christie's yard. Chad spent an exorbinant amount for a Lila tht smells like peanut butter. He will keep it two weeks and then in the dark of night the Flamoingo and sign will appear ina yard of his choice.Silly but Fun!
