Both Sides Will Like This

NPR has an interactive political map where you can predict the winner of the 2008 Presidential Election yourself. My totally unscientific map which was derived from very little thought turned out McCain - 254 and Obama - 284. 270 is the number of electoral votes to win it. Thought this might be a fun discussion topic. Of the swing states, I gave Obama Ohio, New Mexico, Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. How does your map look and what, if any thought was behind it? For example, I gave Obama Michigan because Mitt Romney wasn't picked as a running mate for McCain. Again, no real fact behind my reasoning, but who knows, it may be valid in the end. I especially want to hear from Brian and Rick on this one. They've probably read a little more than I have on this subject!

1) I had it come down to New Hampshire putting Obama over the top, with him having 272 to McCain's 266. I gave Obama Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Virginia and Pennsylvania. If you swap Ohio and Virgina, Obama is even more on top. But he can't lose both with my scenario.

2) Cool site Chick,

I am playing with it right now.

I gave MCain:
PA
FL
NM
VA

I gave Obama
Ohio
Michigan (for the same reason you did)
CO
NH
IA

And I have a total of 271 to 267 in favor of McCain.

I think the lesson to be taken here is that it really isnt the National Polls that count but the State polls.

I think McCain has an outside shot at NH, and has Florida wrapped up.

I gave McCain PA, but he might have a better shot in Ohio right now. I think though that Obama will play the lost jobs card more as the election draws near and both Ohio and Michigan will end up with Obama.

One thing that scares me is Indiana. Right now it is in McCain's column but I think Obama might have a shot there.

6) George look at your map the polls in Alaska will be the last to close because some of the Aleltian Precints being at least two time zones behind the West Coast.

7) It won't be another 2000 because if Alaska is the deciding state Obama will be defeated by the presence of Governor Palin on the Republican Ticket.
