Today Nancy and I visited the cemetery near Lincoln where my parents are buried. We placed a hanging basket on their graves and then went to visit the grave site of two of my uncles who were in the armed forces. My Uncle Bill was a veteran of the Korean War; Uncle Joe was killed in WW II fighting in Germany - two months before I was born, so I never got to know him! Thank you Uncle Bill for your service to our country and thank you Uncle Joe for the ultimate sacrifice.

1) Thanks for posting this Dad. This is what Memorial Day represents to me.

BTW, does he have two grave stones? Or is the lower one more for commemoration purposes?

2) The upper stone is the Kasnar stone - my grandparents are buried on the other side of it and there is engraving on the other side with their names, birth, and death dates. When they purchased the plot they purchased two, so Joe is buried on this side of the stone. The stone in the foreground is at the foot of his grave - I am not sure of its origin, if it is done by the American Legion or government or by the parents. Next time I see Aunt Marilyn I will ask her about it.
