After a Friday afternoon nap I wanted to shoot some pictures with my new lens. I began shooting flowers in the yard, beginning with two shots of an unidentified flower that keeps coming back every year.

1) I'm pretty sure it's Obedient plant (physostegia - something) - that's the name, not the nature of growth. In a moist, loamy soil it grows like crazy. The obedient name comes from the ability to bend the stems somewhat and they stay put.

2) Guess it is good I haven't seen it here--it would take over! Beautiful plant.

3) Pegi comes through, again!!! I went to my wildflower field guide and checked out the Obedient plant. It said it is also called a False Dragonhead and that is in the mint family. The location of where this plant lives finds Ill. in its growing area, as well as the mountains of N.C. I went out and checked the stems and sure enough, they are square. Way to go Pegi!!!! I've always liked this plant even though I didn't know what it was; once it blooms almost every flower has a little black bug in it that I haven't identified yet. I need to get pictures of this bug.

4) It's the Well-Behaved Black Beetle.

I have neither ability with insects or flora but I appreciate you both for helping me learn more about both. :)
