Does anyone know what the purpose or function of the beard is? I know male turkeys have them, but again, I don't know what their purpose would be.

1) If you've ever been on a tour bus in Alaska, you've probably heard that the "beard" that hangs from a moose's throat is called a "moosetache" - it's actually called a bell or dewlap, and nobody has discovered what purpose it serves.

I had to share since I thought moosetache was such a hoot! LOL

2) I like that, a "moosetache". We were on a bus trip in Alaska and I don't remember the driver tell us about the "beard" I guess I need to go back and listen more closely this time!!!! Thanks for the info.
