Dumpster Diving, tornados and Bloody Marys in Church

The Preface...

This weekend Will and I took off for Charleston to visit friends and family. We had a slow start, of course, since Will has to deal with a pregnant wife who is very forgetful, slightly neurotic and over emotional about everything. So instead of hitting the road at 3:45 as scheduled, we, no...Will....ended up at my place of work searching through a school dumpster filled with hot ketchup and pickle juice cafeteria trash to find my wallet. I supposedly threw my wallet away. I told you, I'm pregnant. I, of course, was holding back tears because I can't believe what a moron I am. It took Will and our awesome custodian 30 minutes to find my class' trash at the very bottom of dumpster...no wallet in sight. A new wave of "I can't believe how stupid I am" washed over me. A dim light bulb popped into my mind with a new solution. I called Wal-Mart to see if my wallet was there since I shopped there earlier. I should have done this before the dumpster diving, but, once again, brain is not quiet up to par. Wal-Mart had it! So with Will covered in hot middle school trash to the knee, we headed to Wal-Mart and off we went only an hour and a half behind schedule.

FRIDAY... Family

Our first stop in Charleston was with the Kale's of the cabbage ancestry. We met their new bundle of joy, 4 month old Echo, a King Cavalier.

We then had a face stretching contest.

Seriously, John and Camille Kale picked a quaint Italian restaurant to dine at. It was wonderful! I was the only one who did not need a to go box. So being pregnant also makes you eat like every meal is your very last one, so hurry and eat it all. If you have ever seen a Mango skit on Saturday Night LIve, that's me. After dinner my eyes involuntarily shut, so bed time for me, however Will and the Kales welcomed the morning hours with a bottle of wine and philisophical conversation. Good times for all.

SATURDAY...Friends and babies
Saturday was the most enjoyable for Will, he got to enjoy the company of Jennifer, my best friend, and I as we shopped for clothes and then shopped for baby registry stuff. YAY! Since Jennifer has a well-balanced, smart kid I let her help me choose all I will need for baby Mitchell. A life saver since I have mini-panic attacks as I walk through Babys R US.

The well-balanced, smart kid...Addie. No Addie you can not eat the camera lens.

I have to tell you about Baby Mitchell's first adrenaline rush. There were 30 funnel clouds in the Charleston area Saturday night, and at any moment they could form tornados and touch down. These are the same storms that came through ATL, killing two people. Will and I were seperated during the storms and becuase of that, I started to feel really anxious and nervous. My heart was beating fast and all I could think of is "my baby daddy is going to be killed in a tornado". I did mention that pregnant women are also way over dramatic, right! So as I sat waiting for a tornado to rip through the house, the baby turned into a tornado in my belly, punching, kicking, flipping. It turns out that when the mother is all excited and anxious the baby gets adrenaline rushes and goes for a wild ride. Probably not the best thing for the baby, but if he or she is anything like Dad, they enjoyed it.

SUNDAY
Sunday was a traditional Will and Bek day. Instead of getting home to York to get ready for the week, we decided to stroll around downtown Charleston, shop, people watch, take photos, eat and pretend that we had nothing to do that day but relax. WE met up wtih the Kales...

Had bloody Marys in a desacramented church, mine was virgin, of course.

Took artsy photos of my growing belly.

and Will's...

Overall it was a great weekend. Did not get home until midnight, but it was worth it!

Love to all,
Bek

4) You are a beautiful preggers mom. I was in geriatrics a long time. I can't tell you how many times I had to go dumpster diving to find someone's teeth. My kids were also bad about loosing their retainers and their Dad had more than one exciting adventure dumpster diving to save $75 instead of replacing the retainer.
