Dear Pegi!!!!!

Hey Pegi, Emmy Ann is here visiting for the week and I wanted to take her to Asheville because that is one of WillnBek's favorite places!!!! I am a little concerned if we will be able to get back to SC. How is the Gas situation in Asheville???? We have a room at the Sheraton in Downtown and if I need to cancel it I have to cancel it by 6pm today... We are out of gas in York and I am freaking out!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!! What do we do????

2) Yes, Hayley..... You cannot buy Gas in York SC. It is all gone. People from Charlotte are driving down here and buying it all up...

3) There is gas in Charlotte at some of the stations near 485 but it may not last!

4) I've heard of that happening but I haven't seen it happen around here. That's pretty scary. Are they giving you any idea when you will have gas again?

5) I think they are suppose to getting more gas here in 2 days... Maybe... It was on the news last night that UNC Charlotte classes were cancelled due to gas. Also, in the same report it said Charlotte Mecklenburg School district had enough gas for the buses to last through Friday, and they think it could be up to 2 weeks before they get more. This is scary... Where is Pegi??? Am I over-reacting?

6) She is probably kissing her Prius! I have read it is worst in Western NC though. And I heard the same thing about us getting more gas from other areas in the next 2 days. The panic is the real problem...people are drying the tanks up too fast.

8) Most tractors burn Diesel, and the fuel will not perform in a Gasoline Engine.

9) Wow...even Charlotte. Definitely scary. I would hope emergency vehicles are getting some from somewhere. Crazy times. I'm glad I rarely need it in case we have something similar here--unless the buses run out. At least I can work from home! :)

Hope it works out soon. Hard to think about NC being gasless!!

10) One reason that the people from Charlotte are going to York,SC is because of the lower State Fuel Tax. The shortage has just made the situation worse.

11) Sorry, Will/Beck, I was away from the computer for like an HOUR!

It's bad up here. They say it is one of the worst hit by no gas. They also keep saying it's going to get better but it's not happening. UNCA has cancelled classes; my friend, who works for social services is off tomorrow and Monday; long lines at service stations; cars that have run out of gas sitting for days...

On a program I heard last night they said it is because of panicking and hoarding. They say if people would buy gas like they usually do there would be enough. I am getting ready to go out and do some errands and will check, but everything we hear and have experienced says it is very tough to find the gas. If you can wait a few hours I can report back.

13) Thanks a ton Pegi!!!!!! That would be great!!!! We have a full tank and It will get to Asheville and back, so I wouldn't have to worry about buying it while we are in Asheville, but I am still a bit worried about it.... Maybe I should buy a Locking Gas Cap???

14) Locking gas caps are like 12 bucks - I had one for my first car.

My dad insisted b/c his girlfriend's ex poured sugar and bleach in her tank. (mature)

It was a random, but quite nice, piece of mind.

15) No Gas north of Charlotte -Lake Norman area - I am hoping a half a tank will last us a while - I am allowed to drive now - the doctor released me to drive but since gas is short - I am still stuck at home:(

16) Yeah, there was one gas station open in Huntersville today and traffic was crazy. I have a half tank and ride the bus to work, but when I was dropping Dylan off at daycare today, it was a ghost town. I think that a lot of people can't make it to work.

17) I had a fabricator tell me a little while ago he couldn't deliver a project for me because he doesn't have gas in his trucks. I guess we have to let deadlines slide now.

18) I wouldn't bother with a locking cap. They'll just cut the fuel line if they really want it. Save your 12.95 for a gallon of gas!

19) This shit drives me nuts! I'm just now over E and have reverted to syphoning gas out of the lawnmower. It's not easy to carry 2x4's on a bike, but I'll do it if I have to, I guess. Crazy damned greedy gas hog hoarders.

21) Is NC being hit harder than other states or is everyone else having this problem? I haven't heard of it here but maybe we are supplied differently. We've even been cheaper due to the recent storms. That's a shock for the west coast and the environmental blends which usually make us more expensive.

23) Wow...thanks, Hayley. I guess we are lucky for a change and will appreciate it. Sounds like people are factoring into the problem more than the refineries. Like everything else these days, panic and short tempers are making things worse than they are. I hope it will stablize soon.

24) Gas is readily available here in Mississippi but I do have friends in Alabama and Tennessee who say it is scarce around there. Once friend is driving over from Huntsville to spend the weekend with us - she emailed me yesterday wanting to know that she could get gas here to get back home.

25) Just got back. Probably 2/3 of the stations I saw had no gas. THe ones that had gas had lines - long lines. They're talking about more trucks coming in tonight but we will have problems well into October. My understanding is that you can get gas if you can wait in line (possibly 2+ hours.) We have to make sure we have enough to make it to Charlotte for Sam but I'm only filling up when we get down to 1/2 tank - don't want to add to the crazies.

Good luck making your decision, guys. I'd probably go for it.

Reason for the problem: slow down from the hurricane. Gas line that travels from Houston to Spartanburg, NC was shut down and it takes several days (WEEKS?!) for it to get going again. I heard that the gas travels as quickly as you can walk - so from Houston to Spartanburg - long, slow walk. Most of the stations in the mountains up here are privately owned, not tied to the larger companies, which means they are the last in line to receive gas. Hess stations receive their gas from Wilmington so have continued to have gas. The stations I saw that had gas were BP. It is my understanding that Atlanta is having problems too. I don't understand that, as they are close to the coast...but don't know if there are large ports anywhere nearby - Charleston, Savannah?

43) I heard from another friend in Asheville and she said it was really bad. She is taking clases at UNCA and isn't sure she will make it. The places up around Floyd are out and both of our gas stations here are ok for right now. I heard on the radio that it is hittting Greensboro now. My nieghbor down the street is a medic on one of the oil rigs off of Texas. He told me that about 75% of the rigs sustained severe damage and are not operable. That doesn't explain why we aren't getting it from the refineries. We were in High Point yesterday (20 miles away) and it was 3.55 a gallon. Today I paid 3.88-I wish we knew the truth-betwen the gas situation and this bank bail out I am close to throwing a brick through the radio and tv.
